When Hong Kong was handed back over to the Chinese government a few years back, the world waited and watched to see what the result of this stupendously important moment would be. As it turned out, the end result was no where near what many doomsday sayers said it would be, and, for the most part, business, pleasure and leisure in this magnificent city has proceeded on with little change. That doesn’t mean that Hong Kong is the exact same city it used to be, but it does mean that the area enjoys far more Western style freedoms and liberties that the rest of China does not, and it is for that reason alone that tourists and business people continue to flock to this destination every year.

First and foremost, Hong Kong is a city built on money, and a lot of it. You don’t have to be flush to visit here, but it sure helps. There might not be a city anywhere in the world that is more difficult to enjoy on the cheap than Hong Kong, so make sure you adequately research costs before you book a flight or a hotel room. You don’t want to end up here with little to no money to spend.

One reason why Hong Kong remains such a hot tourist ticket is the fact that it seldom gets cold in this beautiful spot. Temperatures in the summer climb into the 90s, while winter temps are warm and comfortable in the 60’s. You don’t hear about Hong Kong being mentioned because of its weather, but as more and more Westerners discover this amazing destination, don’t be surprised to hear it in the same breath as Florida and other tropical destinations.

Maybe the biggest draw Hong Kong has is its incredible number of fine restaurants, hotels and spas. Since the cost of living here is so high and since no other city in Asia does the business Hong Kong does, there are more fine hotels here per capita than almost anywhere else in the world. That means you should never have a problem finding a four or five star hotel room, or a seat at one of the world’s top restaurants. Hong Kong has all of that and so much more if you have the cash to experience it.

Hong Kong is also a collision of cultures. With so much world business being done here, there are literally restaurants of every kind, shape and size here, as well as residents that have called Hong Kong home for decades. Chinese culture is, of course, well represented, but it is how that cultural influence blends with European and American influences that many tourists find so alluring. Make time to simply walk the streets here as you might enjoy being in the apex of a rich cultural stew more than any other single activity here.
